WAIT… they found endometriosis-like tissue in fetuses??!?!?! Yes. And here’s the part people gets wrong: 🔬WHAT THEY FOUND: Researchers examined girl fetuses and found endometrium-like glands and stroma outside the uterus. This was before puberty. Before menstruation. Before hormones. Before anything we usually blame for endo. That’s why this finding shocked the endometriosis field. WHAT IT MEANS: It suggests that in SOME people, endometriosis may start as a developmental “misplacement” of endometrial-type cells during fetal organ formation. A possible embryonic origin. Meaning: some people may be literally born with the seeds of endometriosis long before symptoms show up. This could help explain why: • endo runs in families • symptoms start so early for some ⚠️ WHAT IT DOESN’T MEAN: • It doesn’t mean every case of endo starts in the womb • It doesn’t mean you can diagnose endo in a baby • It doesn’t mean this replaces all other theories • It doesn’t mean those fetal tissues always turn into disease • It doesn’t magically change treatment today This research is fascinating, but it’s not the final answer, it’s just one part of a very complex puzzle.
